Bideford Triathlon Entries Now Open
The date for the Bideford Triathlon has been announced and entries have opened!
“Bideford Triathlon 2016 = Sunday 7th August 2016
Good news for all experienced and not-so experienced triathletes; the Bideford Triathlon 2016 will be staged on Sunday 7th August. We are both fortunate and grateful to have the support of Torridge Council which has granted us exclusive use of the Bideford Quay for our base for the event in the area between the Kingsley statue and the Old Bridge, thus creating a generous expanse for both the Transition Area which will be to the western side of the Lundy Office on the Quay, and the Finishing Line for the Run which will be on the eastern side of the Quayside leading to the Old Bridge.
The Bideford Triathlon was founded by local resident and triathlete, Rob Floyd and originally was centred at Brunswick Wharf, East the Water, Bideford, ie the other side of the river. Holding the event as we do now from the main Quay allows far easier access to the river for the Swim and puts the event in the heart of the town.
Our entrants will swim a 600 metre length in the River Torridge having entered the water via a concrete launchway at “Bank End” and will emerge at the Gig Steps adjacent to the Kingsley statue. The Transition Area is right by the Gig steps from where the entrants will collect their bikes and then head off towards Torrinton for the26 k cycle ride section before returning to the Transition area and donning their running shoes and heading over the Old Bridge and westwards down the path of the Tarka Trail to a point from where they will return to the Bideford Quay and the Finishing Line.
Full details of the event are available from our websitewww.bidefordtriathlon.co.uk Entries are made with “Entry Central” on- line via a Link from the above website.
The event is organised and run by Bideford Bridge Rotary Club, with the full support of the North Devon Triathlon Club. Any monetary surplus achieved from the event goes directly to the Bideford Bridge Rotary Club Trust account and contributes to the support of numerous good and deserving causes in the area such as Childrens Hospice South West, North Devon Hospice, Northam Lodge, Harbour Trust and WINGS.
Our Rotary Club is extremely proud that the Bideford Triathlon is one of our four main Events which we organise and run annually in Bideford and we urge you to join us and to encourage others to make a note of the date (7th August) and to sign up and join in and make this years event an even greater success.
Relay Teams are welcome! This can prove to be a great way to compete when the event is shared between a team of three.”
