Torrington AAC's beast of a half marathon is always a cracker. 13.1miles of climbing and descending with little or no flat running really tests the legs. Only two of the Tri Club were brave enough to try it this year with Iain once again missing the 90min barrier he'd set as a target and Lee comfortably cracking his 100min target. More there next year please, you know you want to :)Braunton 10 - 28/01/07

Once again JP took top club honours on what turned out to be a rather pleasant morning in North Devon. I'm not sure how long we can keep claiming him for though as his Torbay running club now has a Tri section. There was a fair old scrap going on between 9th and 14th until Tim put the hammer down in the last 3miles and broke the pack up. A late surge from Iain was too little to late as he struggled to make up for his inability to run up the hills. A cracking run by Lee who's Marathon training looks to be paying off. Martin has a new target now with Dick only 2mins ahead while Dave must be looking over his shoulder at an improving Nigel.

Once again the majority of people turned up to the Caper with a big hangover. JP however (who had been out for a beer or two the previous night) decided that after years of messing around he was finally going to take the race seriously. Proudly wearing the colours of his 'new' running club he cantered away with the race winning by almost a minute. Many of us suffered far more than Jon however in the one race of the year where times matter very little and crossing the finish line without seeing the return of the previous nights excess's matters more.

Hagley's a great (and very tough) race based in the Clent Hills. It starts with a 4k off road run to warm you up and get you 'slightly' muddy. Then it's time for the 30k bike ride which has more than it's fair share of technical and lumpy bits. Then you head out for another 8k of Clents finest before returning to the finish. The finish for Iain would have come a couple of minutes sooner and a couple of places higher if he hadn't continued his tradition of cramping up while he has one leg either side of a stile. Not an image you'd want your kids to see, you wouldn't want them to hear the language when it happens either.

Going from the serenity of the 400m pool swim to the hurricane conditions that met you when you set out of the 15mile bike was an interesting experience in Wadebridge. On the day outright spped was forgotten as you battled in vain to try to keep your bike going in a straight line. A freaky hailstorm gave the folks in the last two waves a bit more excitement. The 5mile run brought welcome relief as you headed out along the flat and sheltered Camel Trail with only the beasty little climb to the Leisure Centre finish to worry you.
