2007 Race Report
The weather forecast promised the worst and with driving rain and winds up to 60mph expected an interesting day was in store. Luckily the rain held off and although the wind was formidable it was much less than we feared.
As always thanks go to those folks who gave up their afternoons to support the clubs race, especially those who had to go marshalling the run course on such a bleak day.
The top 6 places were keenly contested between Kelly College and NDTC with the entire field being led home by the 14 year old Youth category winner Rhys Davey (Kelly College). With 2nd place on the day taken by the relay team of Phill Miles and Mark Alderman
(hastily formed after Phill stuffed his leg up tripping over his dog - Dummy!!) it meant that the top 3 places in the Open category were taken Iain Hindes, Alan Ward (both NDTC) and Rich Brady (Trimonkey). The Male Vet category was won by Keith Watts (Saunton SLC) while Mike Davies (Torbay Tri) took home the Supervet prize.
Last years overall winner Flora Duffy (Kelly College) joined the fancy dress racers this year but still managed to finish 5th overall while winning the Female Open category ahead of Belinda Alecock and Helen Banbury. 1st Youth and a superb 11th overall was 14year old Eva Murphy (Woolacombe SLC/Barnstaple SC). Liz Hall took the prize in the Vet category
while Sally Davies (Torbay Tri) matched her husband and made it a family double in the Supervet category. The ever lively Peggy Crome won the Vintage Vet category, as ever resplendent in her finest fancy dress get up.
Best fancy dress prize went to James Marshall who somehow managed to battle his way around an immensely windy 5k dressed as a huge Christmas Present. Runner up was Simon Beale with his rather fetching grass skirt arrangement.
Race results and pictures from the event are available using the links at the bottom of the page. If you've any comments about the race (good or bad) please let us have them by clicking here, good comments will massage our egos and bad/constructive comments will help us make next years race better.
Many thanks to everybody who braved the weather to compete from all at North Devon Tri.
