Outlaw Triathlon 2019

Well what an event – OUTLAW full distance. Quite a commitment with a 30 week training programme. The weather was the key factor with the forecast changing constantly. The days before saw temps up to 35 degs in Nottingham. However it highlights how things can change – biblical rain was an understatement. The driest part of the race was the swim 😂 A mass start of 1,600 was a bit scary & intense for the first 200 metres but soon opened up nicely. A two lap swim with a lovely rest & even some hi5 half way around. Lovely warm lake temp as pretty shallow.

Not what you expect when you get out after a good swim to be told ….. BIKE cancelled owing to unsafe bike course with too much surface water & trees down on the road. Mixed feelings – gutted as end of iron distance but relieved that wouldn’t have to cycle in diabolical conditions. The organisers wouldn’t have made the decision lightly but a very sensible one. So it became an IRON AQUATHLON with the marathon to take place after a very long T1 ( 1 hr 58 mins 😂).

With a spring in our steps the 3 amigos me, Andy Warner & Sharon Mccaulder started off together in NDT kit, very noticeable & commented upon by spectators. Supported by an amazing team of supporters ( Liz Warner , Heather Warner & family ) who braved the weather. A 2 loop marathon including 4 loops of the lake saw some of the wettest I have run in – soaked is an understatement. The orange Outlaw carpet was a welcome end to a great event, despite the weather.
